Pope says he 'deeply sorry' for Muslim outrage

Pope says he 'deeply sorry' for Muslim outrage. Who could have imagined any controversy occurring from quoting this medieval text on the holy wars:
Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached," Pope Benedict quoted.

I hope the pontiff doesn't take up drawing cartoons.

On a related note: Keith Ellison may be first Muslim in U.S. Congress

  • It's about time somebody in a position of authority stood up and said what the world already knows. The islamo-fascists are a violent, intolerant, bunch of thugs. Let's see how many innocent people they kill over this one. The truth hurts.

  • Truth is exactly the issue here. There is a wide variety of sub-groups in Islam, many of them in extreme disagreement. I'd say no use tagging them all as terrorists, or pissing off the 99% who aren't. BTW, Fascism is a strange choice of terms here:

“Fascism ought to more properly be called corporatism since it is the merger of state and corporate power.” Benito Mussolini

  • I see my favorite ex-Nazi is still back-pedallig rapidly. He either has no guts or no sense.

  • I wouldn’t call him an ex-nazi, and after reading the entire speech, the only thing he really has to regret is failing to recognize the reaction this one sentence would have. This is one of the annoying things about how we get our news. Most people don’t take the time to get the whole story. From the beginning the Pope claimed that these weren’t his words or how he feels.

  • BTW, I wanted to post a link to the full speech in my comment, but there's no hyperlink button. Is there a way to link in a comment?
