Woodward: Bush concealing level of Iraq violence

Bob Woodward's new book is being widely reported on today. The Washington Post's headline ( Woodward: Bush concealing level of Iraq violence ) talkes about the level of violence in Iraq being concealed by the administration. It's hard to imagine that it can be worse there than I imagine. But the part I found truly staggering is that yet another old Nixon insider, everyone's favorite Nobel Peace Price winner, Trilateral Commission member and War Criminal (a fact, look it up), Henry Kissinger is being consulted regularly. Here's a quote:
Woodward said Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney often met with Henry Kissinger as an adviser. Kissinger was President Richard Nixon's national security adviser and then secretary of state during the Vietnam War.

These people have a disregard for human life (at leat non-American human life) that I still find shocking. All of it supported onnly by obviously failing idealogies. I'm reminded on Mao, who seems to be an embarassment even to China these days. Maybe Iraq isn't even the New Vietnam. Maybe it's just the same old Vietnam all over again.

  • Oh, please. The only people reporting on this fiction are the kool aid drinkers who believe it. And how is a book that some biased guy wrote news? I didn't hear about it in any of my media sources. Guess it depends on where you go for news. As far as the 'war criminal' slander against Kissinger, when was the trial? I always thought you had to be convicted to be a criminal.

Ricks' work is based on interviews within the Pentagon.
Isikoff is the guy who gave Clinton the original Monica trouble or so I recall, so we know he is biased in favor of the left wing.
Dean was in the Nixon White House so he is also biased.

The real problem is that the present Administration did not follow the Powell Doctrine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
    Powell_doctrine

Rumsfeld beat Powell in the internal fight inside the White House. Rumsfeld did so many wrong things in this war and yet he remains in office. Must be a hell of a political infighter. Or as Nixon called him - one tough little bastard.

As far as war criminals go - I am glad to see that Uncle Adolf and his boys aren't war criminals.

  • Christopher Hitchens calls Henry Kissinger a 'war criminal'. And there are increasingly large numbers of places he cannot travel for fear of being arrested. I find this pretty shocking. I can't think of another world leader in a similar situation this side of the Balkans.

  • Rumsfeield is Cheney's old buddy from the Nixon days. That may be all there is to that story. And admitting some big mistakes. I also see all this stuff is hitting the news now that Bob Woodward is on 60 Minutes and releasing his book. The comment I heard today is that there isn't much in there that hasn't already bee published by (former) White House insiders.

  • I find it interesting that Condi Rice is pulling a Reagan by announcing she "did not recall" being advised about potential terrorist plots prior to 9-11.

Sadly, if we really didn't know ANYTHING about potential threats prior to 9-11, then shame on us for being so inept.
