Violence in a school…
..does not equal school violence. Everyone has heard by now about the guy who took over a classroom in an Amish school and killed several little girls before killing himself. Now the discussions are all about what we can do to reduce school violence and make our schools safer. Getting shot in a classroom by a crazed gunman is not school violence. If a guy breaks into your house and kills you is that domestic violence? What can we do to make schools safer from guys like this? Short of making schools like prisons, nothing. If he wants to get in, he’s coming in.

Random acts are the most difficult to prevent. If you were a betting person, would you in a million years imagine this happening in an Amish school. Who is sick enough to molest and shoot Amish kids? Well, just this one guy, apparently. How do you stop it? Can you stop it? Sadly, I don't think there is an effective way to prevent these kinds of things from happening.

As far as nuts, there is little you can do about them. Luckily they are the vast minority (in spite of what you may infer from watching the news these days). I am more concerned that our society and particularly our government see violence as the answer to all problems. Bomb 'em. Torture 'em. Send 'em to The Chair. Sometimes you reap what you sow.
