New Orleans Still Awaiting Hurricane Aid

A Washington Post story that has been mentioned elsewhere. Seems the Feds sent over $5 billion to the state of Louisiana, but the state has passed on less than $2 billion on do actual repair work from after Katrina. Note that this is distinct from the FEMA grants homeowners are supposed to be getting for private home repairs (which has also been slow in coming). This is all 16 months after the storm.

  • What are they teaching these yoyo's in journalism school these days? The headline is totally contradicted by the story, and key points are omitted. The money hasn't been distributed because the city hasn't spent it yet. It's a reimbursement. You build a bridge, the feds pay you back. Now if you want to say that you need the money first, because you can't afford to front the cost, then that's a different story.
