Nuke or No Nuke?

M.I.R.T.H. can really expand its subscriber list by issuing poll results, so let's conduct one.

Here is the question:
Did North Korea really detonate a nuclear device earlier this week, yes or no?

My vote: NO.

  • I wondered this too. Just a hunch, but I gotta say 'yes'. Only because we probably have satellites watching every inch of that country. Also, this genie has been out of the bottle for over 60 years. That is a long time, technology-wise.

  • I'm leaning toward "yes". Dr. M-G is correct that in technology "years" splitting atoms is ancient science. Frankly,I'm surprised some kooky ex-worker at the Oak Ridge Nuclear Facility (or the like) hasn't as yet pilfered an adequate supply of the appropriate materials and blown up his home town accidentally while tinkering in his back yard "just tryin' to see if I could get r' done".

I find it particularly amusing how upset the Chinese are about this whole situation. Bush may not have to invade N. Korea after all -the Chinese might beat him to the punch.

Which brings me to another curious point - the U.S. "intervened" in Iraq under the premise of supposed weapons of mass destruction and the U.S. calls Iran the "greatest threat" or something like that to world peace yet clearly N. Korea has been on the verge of nuclear capability for some time and only now that they've set off a big one are we publicly ranting about it.

  • Isn't it is obvious that the "Axis of Evil" thing has led directly to Iran and North Korea building nukes? If the Iraq invasion had gone well, I suspect we would have repeated the process in both Iran and North Korea, possibly even to good overall effect on the world. But the whole enterprise was poorly planned and run. A huge gamble was taken, and the US seems to have lost. Score one for the Axis of Evil, at least for today.

  • What does yes mean and what does no mean? They tried to set one off (yes) but it was a dude (no).
